Ponui Island Tree Planting

25th May 2024

We were invited to take part in a planting day on Ponui Island by Diane and David Chamberlain who own the campsite where we camp each February. They are planting a nature Trail - The Tawapou Trail which extends into the hills behind the campsite. They have sourced seeds from local plants and grown these in their nursery.

We are invited to help with planting on one of the five planting days that have been planned this autumn.

There were 1,000 plants to get in the ground each planting weekend as well as fertilizing with sheep pellets and mulching each plant with wool.

A fantastic volunteer group of leaders, parents and scouts boarded the barge from Kawakawa Bay boat ramp early on Saturday morning for a full days planting on the Island.  The weather was clear all all our plants went lovely into their holes complete with sheep pellets for food and wool to keep them warm (and the weeds clear).
